GLOBE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Globe Knights began the 2007 campaign in Cocoa Beach Florida where after winning their first game vs. Rivier College 16-3, the Knights struggled.  After the convincing win the Knights went on to lose there next four games, including two hard fought games against University of Conn. Avery Point.  Those two losses brought the Knights together and motivated them to win the remaining two games of the trip against Lansing C.C. 8-6 & 6-5 to return to New York with a bit of momentum and an overall record of 3 wins and 4 losses.
The Globe Knights were led offensively by the middle of their lineup.  Sophomores Cesar Garrido (3B) was steady as always and ended the trip with 7 hits in his last 11 at bats to end the trip with a .471 batting avg.   Cesar Paredes (C) also played well in his Globe debut accumulating 9 hits in 22 at bats with 3 doubles to end the trip with a .409 avg.  Freshman Willington Castillo (DH/3B) gave the Knights something to look forward to, showing that he would definitely be a force to reckon with in their lineup over the next two years.  Mr. Castillo had several key hits during the trip including a mammoth homerun to right vs. UCAP.  Wellington finished the trip with 8 hits in 15 at bats and a .533 batting avg.  Freshman Danny Fernandez (OF) provided some solid defense in left field and led the team with 5 RBI’s while ending the trip with a .333 avg. .
The Knights pitching struggled a bit on the trip, but there where some lone bright spots.  Sophomores Jose Colon, Vinny Monti, Tiquan Carruthers combined to bring home the teams final two wins.  Freshman Ramone Tavares was also impressive going 1-1 while posting a 2.31 E.R.A. over the first week of the season.  The Knights return home to play some good quality opponents in Bronx CC, Monroe, Brookdale, and Mercer community college over the last 2 weeks in March, weather permitting of course.
