Catherine Kanjer Kapphahn grew up along the Front Range Mountains of Colorado and has lived in Peru, Singapore, Indonesia, and England. At twenty, she packed her bags and moved to New York City. Two years later, her Croatian-born mother died of ovarian cancer. Catherine received her B.A. from Hunter College, where she began writing about her mother, the last woman in her family. She holds an M.F.A. in Nonfiction Writing from Columbia University. She is currently seeking a literary agent for her memoir I Come From the Stories You Never Told Me, which is about her mother's death and rediscovering her history. Catherine is a strong believer that stories can help people through unbearable times. She has taught writing at Hunter College, Mercy College, the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, Columbia University's Double Discovery Center, and Globe Institute of Technology. Catherine is also a co-founder Six Degrees, a writing group made up of six women writers finishing their first books. She lives in New York City with her husband and their dog.
