Mission of The Library Unit
The Mission of the Globe Institute of Technology Library Unit is to supply the Students, Faculty and staff with the print and online resources nevessary to meet the requirements of information literacy, higher learning and professional development. To offer an instructional program to profide Globe students and other Library users with life-long learning, resear and critical skills. the Library seeks to promote collaboration of other colleges and universities through memberships and various associations.
LIBRARY COLLECTION
The GIT Library subscribes to 25 print journals and over 10,000 full-text online journals and e-books through the Novel Databases through Gale Group, Inc. and EBSCO. These include the following: Business & Company Resources Center, Health and Wellness Resource Center, ?Informe! (Revistas en Espanol), InfoTrac Junior, InfoTrac Custom Newspapers, National Newspaper Index, Twayne’s Author Series, Gale Virtual Reference Library, General Science Collection, MasterFILE Select, Primary Search via Searchasaurus, and TOPICsearch. In addition, the library houses for a period of one month the Financial Times, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal in print. The Library maintains over 18,000 volumes covering topics in business, accounting and finance, computer science, the applied sciences, the humanities, English and contemporary literature, social sciences, self-help/motivation, allied health and medicine, college directories, career and job information. The Library also holds a comprehensive reference collection in various subject areas that users can peruse with a valid college ID.
Computers
The Library’s computer room has five terminals. Users have free access to the Internet, and have access to Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for preparation of research reports and other project-related assignments. Adobe Acrobat software is available on all computers for portable document file printouts.

Business & Company Resources Center
Contains resources to global business information, articles from business magazines and newspapers, and company profiles. Information is also drawn from Thomson Financial Securities Data, and Investext reports. Business & Company Resource Center holds entries to 2850 full-text articles.
Reference USA:
Reference USA is an internet-based reference services from the LIbrary Division of info USA. The database contains informations on more than 14 million US business, 210 million US residents, 855,00 US Health care providers, 1.5 million Canadian business and 12 million households

Health Reference Center Academic
Provides articles on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases and all other areas of health, drugs, and medicine. An excellent resource for consumer health and patient education information. Articles are indexed from 1980 to the present.
Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module
Full-text access to articles, books, pamphlets, and newsletters on health topics, and traditional as well as alternative medicine.

Spanish-speaking users have access to ?Informe!. This database is updated daily and contains 117 full-text Spanish language and bilingual magazine articles, reports, and maps. Over 75,000 articles are available.
NEWSPAPER INDEXES
InfoTrac Custom Newspapers
Holds 150 full-text newspapers to 7 New York State newspapers and the last year of the New York Times .
InfoTrac Junior
News articles from Knight-Ridder/Tribune News Service information are available, in addition to more than 300 full-color Rand McNally maps.
National Newspaper Index
Current events and retrospective news stories from five leading newspapers: the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor, the Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post are indexed from 1977 to the present.
EBSCO Databases
General Science Collection
Users can retrieve full-text information on various topics within the science field from over seventy-three popular science publications.
MasterFILE Select
Over 2,000 full-text journal articles are accessible and include topics in general reference, social sciences, business, health, general science and current events.
Primary Search via Searchasaurus
Reference collection of sixty-four full-text materials geared toward school-aged audiences, but useful for the limited English proficient and English as a second language student. User-friendly and easy reading format make this a beneficial resource for English language practice.
TOPICsearch
Full-text database containing 1662 full-text titles on social, political and economic subjects. Suited for middle school students and above, and a good resource for teachers and librarians.

LIBRARY SERVICES
Borrowing Privileges
Currently enrolled students may borrow books once they register with the library. Students may check out materials for 21 days and borrow up to five items . Due Date stickers are placed on the back of all books. Reserve materials have varying loan periods (from 1 hour to 24 hours). Contact the Circulation Desk (1610) for specific limitations. Periodicals and reference materials are for in-library use only.
Desk Copy/Examination Copy Requests
Faculty may place an order for a desk copy, an examination copy, or other instructional material for review at the library. The instructor will be notified when the desk copy becomes available.
Interlibrary Loan
Items that are not available at the Globe Institute of Technology Library may be requested, free of charge, via interlibrary loan. The GIT Library requests that users retrieve and return the lending library’s material in a timely manner.
Hold Request
The Circulation Desk can put a hold on any circulating materials except for Reserve materials. The Library will contact the requestor when the item in question is available for checkout.
Job Posting
Faculty and Administrative staff may request for job placement openings for positions that may become available at Globe.
Library Skills & Information Resource Instruction
The Globe Institute of Technology supports the practice of Information Literacy, and therefore there is a one (1) credit required course in Information Leteracy ( LIB100.) Individualized instruction with the librarian is also available.

Photocopying
A photocopier and vendor card machine are available in the library’s Computer Room for all users to make one or two-sided copies. Users must first purchase a copy card at the vendor card machine before making copies. Copy cards are $1.00. Photocopies are .15 cents per page.
Reference
The Reference Desk staff is available to assist in locating information, performing literature searches, conducting bibliographic instruction, or using any of the Library’s resources.
Referrals
Access to library collections at other university and college libraries that are members of the Metropolitan Library Council of New York (METRO) is permissible by completing a yellow METRO Title Referral Card for researching from a specific title, or by completing a blue METRO Subject Referral Card for researching a subject from an academic library’s special collection. METRO Referral Cards are available at the GIT Library’s reference desk.
Returns and Renewals
All materials must be returned at the Circulation Desk and may be renewed twice unless there is a hold placed on the item. No renewals may be made by telephone; a third party; without the item(s) in question present; or without a Globe ID card. Overdue fines must be paid before any item can be renewed.
Tutoring
Students who need help with reading, writing, and communication skills can signup for private tutoring. Tutoring sessions are held by appointment at the Library or at the assigned tutor’s office.

LIBRARY POLICY
No eating or drinking is permitted in the library. Cell phones must be turned off or left outside of the library. Students must show their college IDs when entering the library.
Fines and Over dues
There are no fines for any materials that are one or two days late. Materials returned after three or more days from the due date will incur a charge of .25 per day, per item. Students who have overdue items for more than 21 days, or have more than $10 in unpaid fines, will have library privileges suspended until their library account is cleared.
Lost Materials
Users will be held responsible for the cost of any lost library item, in addition to, any overdue fines incurred. top of page
