Students from Globe, for that matter from around the Globe, spent the day
skiing and enjoying the milder temperatures. Students from Japan , Russia
, Lithuania , and the United States represented the college's Ski Club
as they hit the slopes of Camel Back, Pennsylvania.
The first time skiers
took pointers from the experienced ones; everyone enjoying the simple
pleasures of the tranquil beauty and clean air of the Poconos. With smiles
on their faces, the gaggle of students grew braver, as they pushed themselves
from Greens, to Blues, to Blacks. By mid-day, the intermediates took
the plunge over "The Hump", a single Black Diamond
on the right side of the mountain. "What a rush" said Ski Club member,
Motochika Yuba.
The beginner skiers really impressed the on-lookers. As
they took to the slopes for the first time, many stared with amazement
at how gracefully they skied. After a few falls, and a few more pointers,
the beginners were taking runs down the Blue slopes.
After the long
day on the mountain, and one too many jalapeno cheese filled pretzel,
the club loaded up and headed back to the city.
So what's next? Mountain
Creek in mid-march seems like a sure bet!
The Ski Club is comprised
of skiers of various levels; many of the members are beginners. The
purpose of the Ski Club is to have fun and is a great excuse to exercise
and breath some clean mountain air. For more information about how you can
become involved with the Ski Club, contact Ryan Buck in Student Services,
room 2-F.
